Transport Wheelchairs

Transport wheelchairs are another type of lightweight wheelchairs and they can be very common for people to use. Most of the time you will find these in hospitals – which use them to move people to different rooms, exams, and to help them out when they have been discharged.

However, these are not meant to be used everyday. They are very convenient for people who do not need them all the time or who use canes or walkers more often then the chair itself. They help to transport them to the place they need to be and because they are not used as often they will last longer then the normal lightweight chair.

The difference between the transport and normal chairs – besides how and when they are used is the way that they are built. Transport chairs have larger back wheels and most do not come with push handles. You may also be able to find some that are able to remove the arm rests. This allows people to sit down and get out of them much easier.

These types of chairs are simple to take care of as long as they are used and stored properly. Most have the ability to be folded and left in a closet where it is out of the way and in a clean place. Just be careful because folding the chair can cause the components of the chair to deteriorate faster.

It may be possible to find a company that will cover the chair under a special warranty. Yet, this might not be necessary because most people will only need them once or twice. Also many will not always cover it because they are usually around $200. This is very affordable when you compare it to most other types of lightweight wheelchairs that can cost as much as $5,000 if not more.
